Honda Urban EV Concept
Honda surprised EV lovers by unveiling Honda Urban EV concept in September 2017 at International Motor Show held in Frankfurt. Production version of this car will be launched in 2019.
According to Honda Motor Co. President and CEO, Takahiro Hachigo,
“This is not some vision of the distant future; a production version of this car will be here in Europe in 2019.”
No official specs are released yet. But according to Honda, it will have sitting capacity of four. The plan is to launch Honda Urban EV in Europe and Asia first. It is unlikely to be launched in US. Small size with modest range of Honda Urban EV is suitable for European and Asian markets due to driving conditions and market dynamics.
Unveiling these two concept EVs and announcing roll out of Honda Urban EV by 2019 shows that Honda is getting very serious about Electric Cars. It has a strong reason to be serious about it!! The competitors like Nissan, Chevrolet, Ford have already taken leads.
So, to regain it’s lost electric vehicle market share, Honda will have to manage Urban EV with competitive pricing & range. It has steep competition from Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf.
