India to Get Stable Electric Vehicle Policy Soon. India has started to think seriously about Electric Vehicles since the new government came to power in 2014. Main reason for this push is growing crud oil prices and rising pressure for clean vehicles to fight global warming.
India tried creating policy with FAME 1 by incentivising EVs by providing subsidies. Current government had an ambitious target of 100% electric vehicles in India by 2030. This target is not practical due to lack on charging infrastructure and high EV prices.
Many of the experts also think that electric mobility will be successful in India by adopting green public transport instead of individual private EVs.
It seems that government has realized it and now taking a more practical approach. Hopefully this will reflect in future EV policies.
